This book is not on the AR list; if you choose to read it, an essay will be due on 8/27.
Essay topic: Explain how the structure of the novel, a series of exchanges by letter, helps accentuate the idea that love is a stragety not unlike war.
Principal points of emphasis:- How does the novel reflect the culture of the 18th century French aristocracy?
- How is sex a weapon?
- How do the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont ironically become instruments of their own destruction?
