Greetings and Happy Sunshine!

Congratulations to senior Sydney Kamin on her recent acceptance to Meredith College with a 92 K Impact Scholarship.

“Behind the Scenes” this week our classrooms have had many special activities in the works.  JR MAPP students had a blast celebrating the 100th day of school on Friday by exploring many things “100” - including a glimpse of themselves at the age of 100, thanks to a fun app that allowed students to pose as their far-in-the-future selves.  Meanwhile, Ms. Amy’s Upper School students started conducting virtual interviews with local senior citizens as part of a community service and writing project.  The Oral Histories our students will produce will be an important contribution to documenting and understanding history at a personal and community level. As an added bonus, it is a wonderful opportunity for both teenagers and senior citizens to have meaningful personal contact during these often-isolating days of quarantine.

Message from NHS member Kevin Cui re Empty Bowls:

The past few months have been tough, and we all need love and support from each other in order to be resilient during this pandemic.  How can we share warmth, support our communities and bring joy to ourselves?  By taking part in Empty Bowls - happening on Thursday, March 4 - we can help local restaurants AND people in need while enjoying delicious soups from some of Durham’s award-winning chefs.  A long-standing supporter for this event and local communities, Camelot is an official sponsor for the event this year.  We invite our families and friends to contribute to this great endeavor!  Empty Bowls can’t happen in person, but we can still support the event online.  By buying a ticket, you can get an individual meal-sized bowl of soup to pick up on March 4 from a participating restaurant of your choice.  While you enjoy your soup, there are restaurants and families supported by your donation!  Lastly, our NHS members have created a flyer to share this opportunity with others.  If you are interested in sharing the flyers within your neighborhoods and with friends - an excellent opportunity for students to gain some community service - please email to acquire a digital version of the printable flyer!
