Summer Programs


The Volunteer Center of Durham offers the Mayor's Award for students ages 12-18 to give youth the opportunity to volunteer consistently over the summer. Students with 100 or more volunteer hours are eligible for this award.


Cornell University Summer College (for High School Students)


The Junior Statesmen Summer School is looking for 8th-12th grade students who have a passionate interest in politics and current events. They are seeking serious concerned students who enjoy discussing and debating issues. This is an exciting opportunity for student leaders.

Summer at Hopkins. To be eligible for the "Pre-College" and "Discover Hopkins" Summer Programs you must be at least 15 years old, have completed at least your sophomore year of high school, and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Outstanding students who are entering their sophomore year and who are 15 may also apply. Admission is competitive, and your application will not be considered until it is complete. Please refer to the dates on this website for deadlines. The application requires completing the application form with an essay and submitting your official high school transcript, standardized test scores (PSAT, SAT, or ACT), and recommendations. You should apply as far in advance as possible to assure a place in the program or in the course(s) of your choice.


Converse College (SC) offers a forensics camp for rising 10th-12th grade students as well as a leadership skills development camp for rising 10th-11th grade young women.


The Durham Arts Council offers kids & teen programs in classes, workshops and camps.


Imhotep Academy introduces underrepresented middle grade students (African-Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Women) to science, mathematics and technology at The Science House on NC State Campus.


Durham Parks and Recreation Adventure Program presents Pedal, Paddle, and Play Adventure Camp for 13-15 year olds. Program runs from July 23-27 and is full of outdoor activities. Call 919-477-9918.
