Greetings!

We had an action-packed week!  Thanks to the efforts of Ms. Charlotte, our Upper School students enjoyed two days of career speakers.  It was fabulous to have so many parents on campus to share their experiences.  Astronomy class resumed with star gazing at the farm and an outing to the planetarium. X classes were out and about from Walking In Nature’s impromptu tour of Bennett Place and fishing excursions to the community outreach focus of the Cooking Class. Environmental Science students visited the NC Zoo. To top it all off, the Perimeter Project officially moved to its next phase with Upper School students selecting their choice of action committees for the coming weeks.

BEHIND THE SCENES:

Weeks like last week remind us of the “magic” moments to be had when we travel with our students into the community and the world. The interplay of classroom learning with the outside world keeps things dynamic, fuels curiosity and sparks ideas. Such frequent and flexible outings are part of the fabric of our unique learning community.  More travel to come!!!

REMIND:

Speaking of our unique learning community, we have an Open House this Saturday from 11 AM - 1 PM.  Please invite your friends and other prospective families to drop by and please feel free to do so as well, especially if you have a student moving to a new division of our school.

Last Friday all families received an email from Ms. Jill about February family conferences.  Please read and reply to that email, as appropriate, by tomorrow (Monday).

ANNOUNCE:

Welcome Felicia Wu and family to our school!!  Felicia joins our New to Upper School and English Language Learner cohort as our newest international student.

Links to picture proofs from the Fall photo session will be sent home with students on Friday.  A reminder email will also be sent.

Announcement from the Camelot Academy National Honor Society and Service Club:

Hello Camelot Families!

We have several exciting announcements to share this week.

Last Friday our club received Camelot Academy’s Golden Sneaker Award for being the top fundraiser - for the fourth year in a row - in the Schools category for the Durham CROP Hunger Walk. Our club plans to help with the CROP Walk again this year, its 50th Anniversary: with your help, we can make our streak five years! More info will be coming soon about how to participate.

Additionally, from this Monday, January 22nd, until Friday, February 9th, Camelot’s National Honor Society and Service Club will be collecting donations to give to the Durham Ronald McDonald House. Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) accommodates families with hospitalized children free of charge, and provides families with meals, snacks, and other essential supplies. These houses are located near hospitals so that families can easily visit their ill children.

We will be collecting Valentine’s Day candy and items from the Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Wishlist, which is linked below. Collection bins for each of the groups will be set up on Monday.

The group (MAPP, Middle Grades, Purple, or Gold) that collects the most candy and Wishlist items will collect a prize (more info to come) on Monday, February 12th. The other groups will collect a prize the day after.

Thank you for your participation!

Sam Pence

Camelot NHS Vice President of Communications
